Stuff's Happenin'

I will try to put something new here about every week. So if anyone out there is following this, you'll have something new to read. The big thing coming up is our annual Bible Conference with Dr. Bob Evans. This will be Dr. Evans 4th time to be teaching our Bible Conference. This year's topic is The Beatitudes. If you've heard Bro Bob before, you'll know this will be a rich time of study. Dates are August 23-26. Sunday night will be at 6:00 and Monday-Wednesday will be at 11:30 with lunch. Hope you'll join us.
We had a great time at Peter Pan last week. About 35 of us saw this great musical and then enjoyed dinner at McFarlains. You'll want to mark Dec 10th on your calendar. We will go see Miracle of Christmas at the Sight and Sound Theatre and we'll also see Six. I know it's a long ways off, but just know it's coming up.
Always be aware that there are many lost older adults in Mtn. Home. Let's be busy making relationships that will show them the love of Christ.

Anybody out there?

Well, this is a new deal for me. Never really thougth I'd do this and it may not last long, but here goes...I pastor a great group of Older Adults at a church in North Central Arkansas. Our community is a retirement community with a lot of move ins. It's a great place to live. Just was wondering if there's anyone out there who does what I do and what good things you might be doing.
There are 2 points of concern. How do we evangelize older adults and how do we get the generations to mix. We have 2 styles of worship and they are considerably different, so that makes it a little more difficult to get the generations to come together. Our students host a dinner every spring where they give the sr's information about the summer as well as sitting with them at dinner and share back and forth questions they have been given. It's a good thing, but we need more. Our sr's are then asked to give to their summer activities and they do so willingly.
And then there's trying to get unchurched sr's to come to church. We have tried a lot of things, but it is difficult at best to make this happen. I'm still convinced, though, that building relationships is the most effective way to reach lost and unchurched folks.
I feel the church is in for a rude awakening when the boomers reach 65 in just a short time. Are we ready? I seriously doubt it.
